New Zealand black abalones (Paua) are growing wildly in the sea at 40 degrees south latitude. In average, they reach legal catchable size within 8-10 years.

 

 

On the surface of the abalones, a unique element has been found, as the abalones stuck on the volcanic rocks in the sea. The element is believed to have anti-tumor function, and abalone meat is very nutritious.

 

 

In New Zealand, the only legal method go get abalone is scuba without oxygen supply. Divers must catch legal sized abalone within a short period of time under the sea, and is thus very difficult.
